Officials at the Wildlife Care Center are willing to help
Salty, but FEDERAL WILDLIFE OFFICIALS told the Center it
could NOT take Salty in because it does NOT have
FEDERAL WILDLIFE PERMITS to capture and treat marine
mammals!
Huntington Beach lifeguards were helping to keep onlookers
away from Salty in fear that someone would take him to
their home in a vain attempt to save him (Salty needs
antibiotics).
As the driving rain and bitter winds pounded the pup, the
lifeguards couldn't stand seeing Salty suffer anymore. So
they placed him in cage and took him to their office near
the pier. There has been no word, to date, if the
lifeguards face federal charges for doing so!-LA Times 2/98

FEDS TO 'SALTY'--DROP
DEAD!
In Huntington Beach, with the only federally licensed
animal shelter in Orange County allowed to care for marine
mammals is filled to capacity, 'Salty' the pooped sea lion
pup has no home! The Sea Lion Marine Mammal Center in
Laguna Beach is so
full that the gift shop had to be converted to make room
for the 81 pups already being cared by the
volunteers. Salty was driven ashore by severe winter
weather in
Southern California. Salty is emaciated, exhausted, and
has no place to go.CALIFORNIA DENIED JUSTICE IN UNABOMBER CASE
